What is the purpose of using Distribution lists with EIGRP....?

Route filtering in EIGRP can be done through Distribute-list (It is like offset-list). you can use standard or extended ACLs to specify the routing update permitting and denying and then you can link with the distribute-list.

Access-list 10 deny 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.255
Access-list 10 permit 10.0.0.0 0.255.255.255
Access-list 10 deny any
Router eigrp [AS]
distribute-list 10 in [option: set interface]

The option IN or OUT in the distribution list explains the direction of the application.
If you set non-existing ACL to the distribute-list, you will find no effect from the distribute-list
When you use an extend ACL with eigrp distribute-list you can control the network advertising in the EIGRP update.

Access-list 101 deny ip host 10.10.10.10 192.168.20.0 0.0.0.255
Access-list 101 permit ip any any

Router eigrp [AS]
distribute-list 101 in

"Access-list 101 deny ip host 10.10.10.10 192.168.20.0 0.0.0.255"

The above line says ' Deny the update (prefix) coming from neighbor 10.10.10.10 related to 192.168.20.0 network'
